Our child welfare bootcamp includes 12 modules available live or on-demand with an added monthly Q & A available to all of our participants. The focus of our modules is to help families understand how the system works. We believe that by pulling back the veil and creating more transparency of the child welfare process you will be more equipped to self-advocate and know when and how to choose a professional to assist. The goal of our bootcamp is to get you in top shape to navigate the system for yourself, your children and the others who are on this journey with you.
These modules will have general processes applicable to all US jurisdictions.
This module is all about the basics of child welfare including helping you learn all of the types of people you will come in to contact with along your journey and how the system works broadly.
This module goes more in depth with the legal processes. Though each jurisdiction will have its own set of laws, the general pathway is very similar. We will also provide resource listings for each jurisdiction.
One common part of child welfare journeys are team meetings, family, and consensus building type meetings (aka family team conferencing, multidisciplinary team meetings, permanency or case planning.) This module provides an overview of the types of meetings you will likely be a part of and how to navigate them.
One of the most important set of skills you need to navigate this journey is advocacy. This module includes key ingredients to being an advocate for yourself and your family.
This module covers the health care systems and providers you need to access to support your family. We will cover key terms and provider types.
This module covers the social security system, adoption subsidies, medicaid/health care, and other disability systems from which you may access financial or other provider support for your family.
This module is all about finalizing a case and how the system closes out a case. It includes a description of the different types of case closures with a discussion on the consequences for each and potential future changes.
This module provides an overview of what to expect after the case is closed. This includes how to access potential services available to you in your community and how to start something to fill a gap in your community.
This module provides a more in depth description of the education system, IEP, 504, special education advocates, and educational resources. We will discuss homeschooling and other options for children who need additional support.
This module delves into openness and future contact with the multiple key people in your child's life. We will discuss open adoption options and recommendations for supporting your child in navigating their future relationships.
This module is all about the business aspects of these systems. Though many providers and agencies you work with may be nonprofit or governmental, they all include the flow of money in and out. This flow often shapes the laws and regulations as well as the availability of resources.
This module is all about learning when and how to hire professionals to assist on your journey. These professionals may include attorneys, family counselors, specialized care, system navigators, and advocates.
